P.E.I.’s Junior Badminton Training Centre has received a $30,000 boost thanks to a donation from a Toronto-based financial services company Respon Financial Group.

With the money, the head of the centre says the facility can bring in an expert coach from China to teach some new techniques and can book gym space for more tournaments.

Joe Zhang is the badminton centre’s board director.

“I know that it’s not as popular as hockey here,” joked Zhang. “When you play badminton it’s good for your health. With this money I think this will be a great help, to help us run the training centre.”

The badminton centre currently has more than 40 children taking part in games and training.

Zhang hopes the increased opportunities provided by this money will encourage more kids to start playing badminton.
